Say Hello To Spring with Straight Tresses

After two hours and a whole lot of flat ironing, I am thrilled to debut my straightened tresses. I RARELY ever straighten my hair, but I think I could used to this hair style!

MAC Heroine Lipstick + Arjuni Wavy Hair Extensions

If you haven’t noticed, I have a strange obsession with purple lipsticks. I think I’ve purchased over five different shades (although my best friend thinks they all look the same) in the past month. I can’t help it! Purple shades tend to look really good on my skin tone.

Thus far, MAC’s Rebel has been my favorite. However, I recently picked up Heroine, which is a moderately bright, matte purple lipstick. It’s slowly becoming one of my favorites!

Rainy Days Call for Curly Hair

It is getting really cold in Los Angeles. And I’m not talking about that 60 degrees type “cold” that east coasters call summer. It is LITERALLY 39 degrees right now! I can neither cope nor comprehend!

In the interest of staying warm this winter season, I’ve been wearing my Arjuni Curly D hair extensions. Check out that ear coverage!

My only concern with this hair style is that, Corporate America might think it’s “a bit much”. To that I say : “Screw you! I’m cold!”

FIve Signs That It's Time To Uninstall Your Hair Extensions

Ladies, we’ve all been guilty of keeping hair extensions in for too long. At least I know I have! I mean, there were times when my hair extensions were hanging on to nothing more than a prayer and a dream.  And I was absolutely shameless! You couldn’t tell me anything!

Then one faithful day, I realized that I was losing my hair! Something had to give. And it certainly wasn’t going to be any more of my hair! I soon discovered (the hard way) that I was keeping my hair extensions installed for far too long. I needed to transition into better weave-wearing practices.

So after months of trial and error, I came up with a list of tell-tell signs that will help us all determine when it’s time to just…let…go.

Let’s get started!

1.    Unruly New Growth. If your new growth has caused your hair extensions to “grow” from 12 to 20 inches, I think it’s time to uninstall. New growth is great. But after being tucked away for so long, it starts to wrap around itself and cause irreparable damage. 

2.     Unpleasant Odor. If you’ve ever worn hair extensions, you already know the smell! The one that shampoo and conditioner can’t mask. Yea, that one. Let’s keep it real! Nobody wants to smell that. So if you ever notice an unpleasant order originating from above your neck, I’d recommend uninstalling and giving your natural hair a good wash down.

3.    Tracks Hanging On For Dear Life. Bobby pins can only do so much! If there’s ever a point where you have 50+ pins holding up 2.2 tracks, let it go! Just uninstall.

4.    Permanent Ponytail. Hair extensions are not cheap. And I don’t know about you all, but I don’t buy them to keep them trapped in a permanent ponytail. If you find that your tresses have lost their lust for life, go ahead and put them out of their misery. They shouldn’t have to live like that. And neither should you!

5.     Shedding. If you’re leaving behind more hair than a cancerous kitten, the only thing left to do is uninstall. Seriously. There is no bigger crime in life than leaving behind trails of hair everywhere! Uninstall. Trust me, the remote, the kitchen sink, the mattress and the children will thank you!

And that’s it! These five simple tips will save us all from unnecessary headaches and hair loss. And I’m sure there are even more helpful tips! So if you think of any others, please feel free to leave them in a comment down below!

Arjuni Wavy A With a Subtle Splash of Color

I have absolutely NO shame when it comes to leaving the house with a scarf on. Zip. Zilch. Nada! Some times, some places and some people are just not worth the effort of removing it.

This includes Best Buy. I went there this weekend to return a gift that I bought for my father. He didn't want it. Rude. Lol. Anywho, I had my natural hair out and I TRIED to get cute. Boy did I try it! I slicked down my baby hairs with some prostyle (again, no shame!) and tied them down with a scarf. 

Now, anyone who's ever used gel or wax to slick down their hair, knows that you can't just walk about all willy-nilly without scarfing it down. You'll end up walking around with that Blue Ivy special (no shade, but SHADE!).

Anywho, I digress. After I returned from Best Buy, I got to recreating one of my babies. 

There she is! And do you see that color?! Oooo kill em! This specs are as follows :

How To Achieve Big Bouncy Curls

Today I'll be creating big and bouncy curls using my Curly B hair extensions.

I typically use a flat iron for this style....

but these Cambodian sockets blew mine out a few weeks ago.

I was pretty saddened by that lol. But a curling iron can do the trick just the same.

Here are my hair extensions installed on a wig.

I always use my handy-dandy Denman brush to straighten the hair a bit.

Lol. As you can see those curls are resilient! 

Items Needed :

Curling iron

Bobby pins

Mannequin head (if extensions are installed on a wig)

Scarf

*laughing* the hot comb is just being used as a stand.

Step 1 : (If hair is installed on your head, skip to Step 2)

Place wig on mannequin head.

Step 2 : Divide hair into sections. I've divided mine into two large parts. 

However, you can do as many as you'd like.

Step 3 : Section off a small portion of hair for curling.

I'm trying to achieve big bouncy curls. As such, I'm

taking pretty large chunks of hair at a time.

Step 4 : Brush the section and curl.

You should get a curl similar to the one shown above.

Step 5 : Collapse the curl upon itself.

Step 6 : Twirl the curl until you've reached the top.

Step 7 : Secure with a bobby pin. 

Step 8 : Repeat Steps 3 - 7 for the remaining hair.

Remember that this does not have to be perfect. 

Step 9 : Tie the hair down using a scarf.

I'm leaving the scarf on overnight. However, you

can choose to leave it on for 10 mins, an hour...or 10 weeks.

It's all up to you!

Curly C Hair Extensions After A Fresh Wash

This was a photo that I took of my Curly C hair extensions two years ago.

They were magnificent then.....and they still are : 

Here is a photo of the same hair, taken this morning.

I love this hair style because it's super natural when freshly washed.

And I can also brush it out for a larger than life type of look.
